Running Alone

I run alone. There are days when my husband comes out with me for a 5 or a 6 miler and OK, for the longer runs, I drop in a local marathon training group if I can. But for the most part, I'm out there pounding the pavement by myself. But, for the past few months that I've been blogging about my runs, I feel like I have been part of a running support group. And that would be YOU! Sometimes, during my runs, I think about the things I want to write about or capture during the run (although, most of the time, it never makes it on the screen). And knowing that I have a small group of runners that read my blog and give their comments have been really really encouraging. I feel like I have my own personal running coaches and partners. Believe it or not, you guys are all out there with me when I'm running. And it doesn't feel so lonely out there! This post might be a bit cheesy but I just wanted to share. :-)

Also, I went out for a 6 miler last night after work and it felt really good. Maybe it's running on flat roads but it felt really good!! However, my Nike+ said I only ran 5.5 miles!! Which is really odd because I stopped the Nike+ when it read 6.2... So strange. This is my "broken" Nike+. The replacement hasn't arrived, yet. According to this map of the San Tomas Creek Trail, I started near the starting point and went out to the 3 mile marker and turned back. (This is the route the Sports Basement running group goes out on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings. I love how it has a legend at the bottom of the map. Also, a great bike path... well paved and clean!) But my sensor didn't capture it that way. Hmmm. Anyhow, this morning, the top of my foot was a bit achy and looked a bit swollen, too. I thought my shoelaces were too tight but i think I must have done something to it yesterday. I iced it this morning before I came into work and it's feeling better but I'll have to play it by ear to see if I can run on it today.

  4. I feel the same way!

And I'm glad your 6-miler felt good. It's about time! Hope the foot's okay for today's run.

  5. I do my runs solo as well (mostly because my schedule doesn't really fit with a group scenario) and there only have been a few times I didn't think about a Blogger here or there. Honestly I don't even know if I'd still be running if I didn't have all this support from other "weirdos" LOL

  6. I run alone all the time too. I do think about what I am going to write when I am running. When the run isn't going as planned or takes a dive and I feel like giving up, I think about how I would feel like I let the bloggers down!

Blogging has definitely made me accountable for my running and has also been a place of great support.

  7. This is so handy - I've always wondered where the Sunnyvale SB crew does their group runs. I didn't even know about this trail! Maybe I'll join in once the Nike one is over...

  8. What everyone else said, especially *aron*. My family doesn't really "get" why I love to run. (My 15-year-old tells me I run because I'm insane, but that may have more to do with his age than my mental state.) Anyway, it's great to know that there are others who share my love of running!

  9. I run alone as well . . . sometimes it is lonely but for the most part I really like it.

I also love the support I receive from my few blogging friends!

  10. I feel the same way, but when you have the same experiences as others it really bonds you to them, even if you have never met!

  11. I feel the same way! I run alone 90% with some long run buddies sometimes. But yes, I think about what I will write and think more thoughtfully about my runs with the fun blogger community. I hope your foot feels better!

  12. That's hilarious because I often get myself through a brutal run by thinking about what I'm going to post on my blog....lately, I've been thinking "if Julianne can run a marathon the week she gets married, then I can continue to find time to train for a marathon!"
