Happy Halloween and Other Miscellany

So it ended up raining after work yesterday. Which was a bummer because I was really looking forward to running 8 miles at a trail near work and burning off the Indian buffet lunch that I overdosed on. I ate in anticipation of burning it off in the run. A little rain doesn't usually scare me but the rain was quite steady and didn't really feel like getting soggy shoes. So, what a girl to do? I headed to the gym instead. I really don't like to run on the treadmills. Does anyone really? And, the gym near my work is always crowded and not easy to hog the treadmill for more than 30 minutes. I knew I had to break the rules and really, be a bad gym member and not share. Good thing for my iPod and good running mix, I don't know how I got through the 8 miles on the mill but I did! Running on the treadmill is really hard for me because I get so tempted to stop and say, I can make it up tomorrow! It's so easy to push the pause button and stop where as when you're out on th road or trail, you have return to your point of origin. Besides the all the crazy amount of calories that I consumed at lunch time, I really am serious about my training for th CIM. I kinda half-a$$edly ran the Nike Marathon and I really want to run a sub 4 hour marathon at the CIM. All that motivated me to stick to my 8 mile treadmill run. Oh and I want to lose some weight so that I can shave off some time off my PR! I only had to switch treadmills once because people were waiting and I felt guilty about hogging my machine. But, I did re-start the machine over once when I thought no one was paying attention. I swear, I felt dagger stares on my back coming from people waiting for the machine. I'm so sorry!

After my sweaty 8 miler at the gym, I went to go visit my younger sister who's 15 weeks pregnant! (I'm the oldest of 3 girls!) I feel like I'm surrounded by pregnant women these days. My husband's cousin is 18 weeks pregnant, my best friend is 26 weeks pregnant and of course, lovely ND is 24 weeks along. :-) As a matter of fact, I'm throwing my BFF a baby shower next weekend! Oh and yes, it will be my first time being an aunt. She finds out the sex of the baby next week, I think! My sister and I ate my mom's left over lasagna (she dropped by earlier to drop off the food), watched Elizabeth (the movie) and watched my sister knit.. She's starting up her own business selling baby beanies, scarves, greeting cards, handmade jewelry and other hodgepodge. I somehow missed the day God was handing out the crafty talent gene.

Here's a photo of my 2 sisters on my wedding day. The pregnant one is Sujin on the right. My youngest sister Sue (on the left) lives in Riverside, CA and don't get to see her very often. I'm off to the right with Duane and the flower girls. Rest of the bridesmaids to the left.
Just for the heck of it, here's a picture of my good looking family. I guess I was off taking pictures? (Sujin, mom, dad & Sue)
And another gratuitous photo of me and my husband... along with the flower girls.
I can't believe it's already Halloween. Where did this month go? I have no Halloween spirit as usual and we'll probably go meet some friends in the city for dinner and drinks (sans costume). Tomorrow, I'm shooting for 16 miles in the morning then heading up to the Healdsburg area for the Russian River Wine Tasting event with the hubby and another couple. We'll be staying overnight, yay! Too bad this event didn't coincide with the half marathon last weekend! (Or maybe that was precisely the point...) Hope the rain lets up!!

And, of course, best of luck to everyone racing this weekend!!

  1. Thanks for the well wishes! Your wedding pictures are absolutely beautiful-- you do have a good looking family! I'm such a romantic, I love looking at these photos so feel free to post more. ;) That is so exciting that this will be your first niece/nephew (let us know which one when you find out).

Have a great weekend and a great 16-miler. You always seem to be up to something fun!

  2. Great job! I do not heart treadmill running :P I could maybe do three miles and then I just want to be off that thing :)

Good luck with 16! You could try the US half on Sunday in SF and then tack on three more miles!

  3. I run on a treadmill about 5 times a week...it does take a lot to not hit the stop button some days. But I actually think it's helped me with my speed. I'm really good at keeping a steady pace when I'm out on the roads and I like doing sprint workouts on the treadmill.

  5. Awww, thank you for the good luck shout-out. :D

On the treadmill it is far too tempting to jump off, with a car in the parking lot to take you home. :p Awesome job getting your workout done - I don't think I could stand 8 miles on that thing.

    Great family pics too.

    Have a great weekend!

  8. I'm impressed with the eight-miler on the treadmill. You must have great mental fortitude! Also, your wedding pictures are so pretty. I liked that your Mom wore a matching pink hanbok.

Good luck with your run tomorrow!!!

  11. I used to be fantastic at the treadmill. I could just watch a movie and zone out...but after a full summer of just loving the weather...well it's going to take awhile to get back in the hang!

  12. First of all, I love your pics!!! I think the pink looks so pretty! Also, great job on the 8 miles on the treadmill! It is hard, especially when the gym is crowded - that's so funny you reset it : ) Thanks for the shoutout! It's fun that your sister is pregnant, you'll have a little baby right in the family, and be a fun auntie! Good luck on your 16 miler this weekend and have fun!

  14. Thanks again for the good luck shout out. I think all done with being nervous and ready to run this thing already. And it's still 2 days away. Aaarrgghh..

Nice pics by the way, and good work on the dreadmill...so tough to hang in there that I've never done more than 5 miles on it!

  16. What a beautiful bride!! Your wedding looks like it was so pretty. Nice work on the tm. I can barely stay on the thing for 15 minutes, so I admire your dedication to stay on for 8 miles.
It did rain in Davis this morning by the way, but sunny all afternoon. But I really love running in the rain, so I am hoping for a little more tomorrow:)

  17. Thanks for visiting our blog! I will try to update it with more running stuff. My husband made low carb bread today that I will use for a sandwich tomorrow on a 50K trail run (hopefully the rain will hit late- it's all good though, because you have to be able to race in the rain sometimes.) I admire your discipline in completing your treadmill run.

And the wedding pictures are beautiful!

  18. I think that running on the treadmill is easier if u have music. I will have to try that. Glad you got the 8 miles in! Great job!

I love the wedding pictures too!

  19. Eeeeeeek, I'm facing the "to treadmill or not to treadmill" decision today, too. This weather: great for the drought, not so very nice for running.

    Great photos. :-)

  20. I'm so jealous that you can drive up to wine country so easily. After 16 miles you'll deserve some wine.

    Your wedding photos are goregous!

  21. P.S. I think I may be the only person who doesn't mind the treadmill...or maybe I just HATE running in the rain more than most.

  22. I HATE running on the TM... so good for you sticking it out.

Thanks so much for the good luck, I really appreciate it.

    Your fam is beautiful.

  24. OMG YOUR FAM IS SOOOO CUTE!! I want to hug your parents they're so cute! Especially your Mom (I'm a weirdo LOL)

Being an Aunt is going to be killer! All the pluses of having kids but not dealing with any of the whining, crying, and frequent night wakeups HAHA

Great job on that TM run chica!

  25. Yeah, we signed up really early because with her coming from Chicago, we wanted to make sure to get in to everything. We also signed up for the totally expensive pre-race dinner and talk, and only 150 people can do that. Plus her parents are planning on coinciding their vacation to Napa with the race so they can cheer her on. So we just had to make sure. :)

So now I know that if I haven't met you at a race by then, I will next July! Although it's 90% sure I'm doing a relay at CIM so hopefully I'll get to meet you in a month. :)

  26. i run every single day on the treadmill and at first its super hard but now i'm so used to it i just keep on goin. Normally, i cover up the screen with a towel that way i'm not anxiously awaiting it to be done with but sometimes nothing helps i just DO NOT want to run.

Your wedding pics are georgous! You were a beautiful bride! :)

  27. You are the WOMAN!! 8 miles on a treadmill. There should be a medal for that. I remember Shirleyperly posting about running 12 miles on the treadmill and I thought I can barely get to 6 before I feel like I will blow my brains out. You guys are crazy!

I went to 8 baby showers the year I was 34. It was crazy. I can go into Baby's R Us and get a gift in under 5 minutes and have it wrapped by the time I get to the shower now!

What a beautiful family and gorgeous wedding pictures you have. I love the colors! ;o)

We will have to make plans to meet up at CIM! Since you are going for sub-4, we certainly won't be running together! LOL!

I am going up the day before for packet pick up. Shoot me an email if you like!

  28. Hey you! Tell Sujin congrats on her newest venture, both baby and business. :)

I agree, you ARE the Woman.
