Recovery Run & More Nike News

I went for my first recovery run since the marathon last night. I went for a slow 7 mile jog after work and it felt so good. It's time for CIM training! I mean, I'm still sore. I had to stop at mile 4 and 6 just to catch my breath! But, moving my legs and pumping my arms, being out there just felt soooooo good! I felt so alive and purposeful. I don't know what it was. It made me so happy to be running again. Maybe I was just happy to run alone without the crowd?? But, it reminded me again that I really *heart* running! (And why I run marathons!)

In other news, did you hear about this woman who ran the fastest time in the Nike Marathon on Sunday but didn't win? Apparently, 24-year-old Arien O'Connell ran the fastest time of any of the women but because she didn't run with the Elites, she wasn't awarded a prize! Amazing and totally lame!! You can get the rest of the story here. I picked this story up from Erik and Leslie's blog. And you can do something about it here, if you think she deserves to recognition of the win:

  4. I read about Arien O'Connell yesterday. If you have the best time you have the best time. She should be recognized for it. I am pretty sure her time was several minutes ahead of the Elites.

How awesome that you are able to run 7 miles after just running a marathon a few days ago.

  6. YOu are insane! (in a good way!) I can't believe you could rock out 7 miles so soon after the marathon. Dang are like the female Dean Karnazes or something? Might be onto something there . . . . ultra marathons?!? LOL

  9. I was reading about Arien yesterday. I think that is horrible. As long as I can remember... the fastest time always was winner. Poor girl.

I don't know what it is about recovery runs but I agree that they are great.

  10. Thanks for visiting my blog. What is wrong with me that I didnt notice your blog? I won't miss it anymore.

Great job getting out and running 7 miles. I just read the follow up news to your post and found out they came to their senses, sort of, and awarded a winners' prize to Arien. Umm, a little (lot) late, but better late than never.

  11. 7 miles? right back on the the horse, huh?

I signed the petition. do they think if she ran with the elites, she would have run slower? not very likely.
