Random Bits

Just an FYI to my readers: I still have not found a way to make money blogging about running. But I'm still looking and searching. If I find out, you'll be the first to know! Of course, if we're all doing the same thing, we'll probably just end up making money off of each other... which would just recirculate among our little community. Hmmm.

Can I continue complaining about this getting dark at 5pm business? It really sucks. I start panicking about my evening runs when I see the sun go down around 4:30pm. It's really sad.

Tomorrow night, my Mr. Right comes home from Boston! He's been away since Sunday on a business trip. We did long distance for over a year (cross country) but since we've been married we're like two peas in a pod. We're like inseparable. (And grossing out some friends in the process.) I can't believe I put up with long distance dating for that long!

Speaking of business trips, my trip to NYC next week got canceled. Thanks to the economic downturn, not only did my department have to give back $13MM dollars (that would be 13 million) all travel has been suspended. Usually, in my R&D new product development group, we're given more money than we know what to do with. This month, they asked for money back. This is baaad news. And no travel! I have to cancel all my restaurant reservations now. Boo.

So excited about my run with Dean Karnazes tomorrow night with the Fleet Feet Berkeley store team. I saw that there's about 26 other runners that have RSVP'd but I heard they are expecting more. AND, I am going to try my best to get a photo with him. Oh and get my book signed. Ok, I'm going to try!! I don't want to seem like an obsessed fan or anything...

And, one more random bit... I totally get excited when I get a real word like "ankle" when you get those word verification for Blogger. Maybe because on average, I have to type in the "word" like two or three times before I get it right. I don't like those, to tell you the truth!!

  1. I haven't actually enrolled/signed up/visited a CF gym yet. I am kind of toying with the idea. I would see better results if I did something with a group. The cost is out of my range right now. So I am looking at what else I can do. I could get the WOD and workout at home, but that's not the same. I will certainly keep you posted.

  2. Whoa - you got a real word for Blogger word verification? I think that's rare enough for a screen shot!

Sorry to hear your NYC trip got cancelled :(

    And have fun tomorrow night!

  5. We have so much in common! My husband and I did the long distance dating between PA and MI for a year and half. Since we've been together, it's impossible to separate us. Even short business trips make us miss each other. Absence does make the heart grow fonder!

  6. What about putting up ads? I don't know what the pay rate is but you can roll that way.

Oooooo you're going to run with Dean? How fun!

You know, lately I've been seeing more and more word type verifications, instead of the "rywuiryw" ones. It's been nice LOL

  7. Ouch that sucks about NYC but we're all feeling the pinch, we had our budget slashed by $8mm next year!

  8. That's hilarious. I'm the same way with the whole word verification thing. I even made my wife come in the room to see it once. She was not nearly as impressed as I was. I told her she should enjoy the smaller things in life.

  9. That stinks about NYC. Hopefully you get to travel to the Big Apple again soon. Can't wait to hear about your run with Dean.

  10. Blah, I'm sorry your trip to the big Apple got canceled. Booo, economy!

I second your sentiments on LDR's. BF and I were in one for all of college, and now, we're finally in the same place!

Have fun with Dean! I read in an ad somewhere that he likes Greek yogurt...aha, maybe you could bring some and be #1 fan!

  11. Sorry you're not coming, but personally, I think a run with Dean is more exciting than a trip to boring old Manhattan :)

  12. Sorry about your trip getting canceled, but yay for Mr. Right coming home!!

I get a kick ou tof the word verification when it's a relevant word... I had 'strong' for Aron a while ago, which made me smile. Hehe, you know what they say about small things & small minds. :)

Too awesome that you will be running with Dean! I hope you can snap a pic for us.

  15. Ooh, I'm thinking what Marcy's thinking. Try going to Google Adsense and put up an ad. You'll make basically nothing, UNLESS people click on the ad. Anyway, if you put them up, I will click. :) Hey, if the money's coming from Google, why not?

Glad to hear Mr Right is home and you're back in your cozy little pod. Awww!

  16. Running with Dean sounds like so much fun! Did you see him speak at the SFM Expo? I was there and it was great!

I don't use word verification and have had no problems since removing it. Wish more bloggers would take it down, as it is kind of a pain...

  17. keep looking, I'm sure you'll find a way to make some money. Look to see if some shoe companies could sponsor the blog... though you might need to show you have so many hits each day.

    Enjoy the run, i'm jealous!

  21. I did the long distance thing with Mr Pi for about a year then we lived together (me with his roomies) for about 5 months...then I moved to Boston from CA and we were long distance again for about 4 months. It is soooooo hard to be far away from the one you love BUT I do think there is some credence to the saying "absence makes the heart grow fonder."

Have fun at your run with Dean...very cool!

  22. He he! I've never gotten a real word in the captcha...but it is fun when I've gotten almost a real word.

Have fun at fleet feet! I didn't know about it...but now that I do, I'm sorta thinking about going. My only problem is that I'm so stuck in SF! I went to Oakland the other day and realized it was the first time I'd left the city in months! he he!

  23. That sucks that your NYC trip got cancelled.

I also hate this getting dark early business. I lose all my motivation to work out! I just want to drive home and eat and sleep. Sure-fire recipe to gain weight!

How do you find the motivation to run after a 50 mile commute? My commute is about 20 miles (in traffic) and i'm dead tired by the time I get home.

  24. I'm sad that you're not coming to NYC! Such a bummer!

I'm glad you liked my race report. It was cool sharing my experiences with everyone.

Enjoy your run with Dean! Bring your camera and take some pictures.

  25. That's too bad the NY trip got canceled. Hopefully the economy will be turning around soon. Bio Tech is an area that needs to be funded.

    Have fun running with Dean.

  26. I keep wondering if my blog has that comment thing where you have to spell the word. So annoying!! I have problems with that too! I hear ya about the darkness. It sucks! I run on the TM at this point anyway, but the motivation is so low when its nighttime already when I'm going to the gym!! Sorry about the trip being cancelled, that stinks!

  27. Sorry to hear about your NYC trip :( Major Bummer. You'll definitely get your book signed and get a picture! I met Dean a few years back at a book signing when his first book came out. I took a picture with him. That would be awesome to go on a run with him, though! Have fun!
